Summer Program Schedule available at grassyhollow.net. You can email us at grassyhollow@hotmail.com for further info/details. Adventure Pass is required for some events. You can purchase a $5 daily pass at the following locations in Wrightwood: Mountain Hardware or Wrightwood Market/Gas Station. Grassy Hollow Visitor Center does sell the $30 yearly pass/$5 daily pass (cash or check only) Saturday and Sunday 10 am -4 pm.

June 2nd             Saturday at 9:00 am – “LIGHTNING RIDGE ECOLOGY HIKE”

Bring the kids out to learn the ecology of the surrounding area. Learn how forest fires, animals, the wind, snow and climate affect nature. Great for adults too! Wear tennis shoes or boots.

Length: ¾ of a mile, EASY with some uphill sections      Location: Inspiration Point, 5.5 miles west of Wrightwood on Hwy 2. Adventure pass required to park at trail head. Meet at red metal picnic table.

 

June 9th             Saturday at 11:30 am – “Reptile Show!” Live Specimens!

You will learn about snakes and lizards that slither and crawl around in our area.

Length: 1 ½ hour                                                                  Location: Grassy Hollow Visitor Center

 

June 16th           Saturday at 9:00 am “Kids Adventure Hike”

Come join us for an exciting wilderness adventure in the forest! Wear tennis shoes or boots.

Length: 1 mile loop, with some uphill sections              Location: Grassy Hollow Visitor Center

 

June 17th            Sunday at 1:00 pm – “Plant Identification Walk”   

Join two professionals who will share their knowledge of Biology and Botany, as they take you on a walk and teach you to identify our local plants and wildflowers. Wear tennis shoes or boots.

Length: 1 ½ hours, 1 miles loop trail, EASY with some uphill sections   Location:  Grassy Hollow Visitor Center

 

June 23rd             Saturday at 9:00 am – “Earthquake Walk”

Join us for a walk along the San Andreas Fault and learn about Earthquakes from a well- versed naturalist guide. See many interesting formations. Wear tennis shoes or boots.

Length: 1 ½ hour, Easy 1.5 miles hike                              Location: Apple Tree Campground

Take Hwy 2 to the junction at Big Pine Ranger Station and ski resort. Big Pines Hwy is at junction, go down Big Pine Hwy (4) for about 2 miles campground on the left. Adventure Pass is required to park at campground/trail head.

 

June 30th              Saturday at 11:30 am – “Forecasting Earthquakes”

Can “anyone” forecast earthquakes? Come and hear an authority in the field discuss just what IS involved in forecasting earthquakes.

Length: 1 hour lecture                                                            Location: Grassy Hollow Visitor Center
